Welcome Prof. Dr. Claus Peter Gwiggner to the THK-AI Research Cluster
The THK-AI Research Cluster is delighted to welcome Prof. Dr. Claus Peter Gwiggner as its newest member. With his addition, the cluster grows to 26 members from across the faculties of TH Köln and gains depth in operations research, decision-making under uncertainty, and causal statistical inference.
Short biography
Prof. Dr. Claus Peter Gwiggner teaches and conducts research at the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering Sciences of TH Köln. He is affiliated with the Institute for Data Science, Engineering, and Analytics (IDE+A) on Campus Gummersbach.
His research focuses on supply chain analytics and stochastic optimisation. In teaching he covers discrete optimisation, causal statistical inference, decision-making under uncertainty, and Decision Intelligence / Operations Research. He is a member of the German Operations Research Society (GOR) and a recipient of fellowships from DAAD, EGIDE, and the Franco-German University. In 2024, one of his projects received the Wirtschaftswoche Best of Consulting award in the Purchase & Supply Chain Management category.
Connection to AI research
Gwiggner’s work sits at an interface the THK-AI Research Cluster has so far covered only partially: data-driven optimisation and causal inference are the methodological backbone of many modern AI applications in which decisions must be taken under incomplete information — from supply chain and logistics models to predictive maintenance and robust recommendation systems. His expertise in decision intelligence complements the cluster’s existing strengths in machine learning and optimisation with a markedly decision-oriented perspective.
We extend a warm welcome to Prof. Gwiggner and look forward to working together!
